Joey comments: This was published on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York. Although those protests are widely viewed as the start of the modern gay rights movement, they didn't just spring up out of nowhere. Whole books have been written on the subject, but here's some background on what D.C. activist had been doing prior to that.
