Recommendation from Crystal Schelle

To whom it may concern:

I am writing this letter as a recommendation for Joey DiGuglielmo.

I had the pleasure of working with Joey from 1999 to 2002 while he was employed at The Journal in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Joey started as a stringer writing reviews before he came onboard full time. His title upon joining the staff full time was reporter, but his duties reflected more of an assistant editor position.

As a reporter, he was always fair and accurate and never missed a deadline. As my right-hand man, I could count on him to paginate pages, catch errors on proofs and make corrections. His work was always stellar. He was an editor’s dream —  he could work independently, but still communicate daily and be flexible.

His work ethic was especially important to me because during his tenure, we were the entire section. Putting out seven fronts five days a week, plus many special sections a year, could not have been done without Joey.

He was always looking for ways to make us work smarter, not harder. He implemented an archiving system for our section I continued to use after he left.

After leaving The Journal, he continued to flourish in other reporting positions. His work at Times Express in Monroeville, Pa., helped him expand beyond writing features. He tackled hard news regularly and won accolades from the state for his work.

At The Washington Blade, Joey held both the news and features editor positions. During his run,  Joey continued to show his dedication to journalism. And in his first time as an official editor, Joey epitomized what a true editor is. He enjoys shaping both copy and young reporters as he had several mentoring opportunities at the Blade.

In addition to his work in journalism, I believe his years in food service shaped the editor and reporter he is. He understands that readers are customers and treats them as such. In today’s world, customer service is so important and Joey knows it.

I would highly recommend Joey DiGuglielmo for a position at your organization.

Sincerely,

Crystal Schelle
